Harrods is the best known and most exclusive department store in London. Named after Charles Henri Harrod, who started a grocery store here in 1849. Since then, Harrods has become synonymous with exclusive and expensive shopping. The motto of the store is Omnia Omnibus Ubique or All things, for everyone, everywhere. With more than 300 departments, they sell everything.
Harrods was bought in 1985 by the Egyptian businessman Mohamed Al Fayed.
You should definitely have seen a few departments, namely the world-famous Food Halls and the Egyptian department. The Princess Diana and Dodi Memorial is also very impressive.
For those with a somewhat smaller purse there is the Harrods Souvenir Shop, where you can buy all kinds of Harrods souvenirs. Or go on Sunday between 11:30 and 12:00, it is then “Browsing only”!
Even in the evening a visit is more than worthwhile. The 7-storey building is then illuminated with 11,500 lights.
At the Terrace they serve a great traditional afternoon tea.
